Add, group and remove menu sections

Your sections are the headings on your menu — Pizza, Pasta, Wine. Scanning your menu creates them for you, but you can add, group and remove them by hand at any time in Menu → Categories.

The rule: a section can hold types, and a type holds items. One level, no deeper.

How it works

1. New category, top right, opens a short form: a name, the web address (it follows the name), Food or Drinks, an emoji, and an optional parent. Saving takes you into the section’s page to finish the rest.
2. To group sections that already exist, tick them in the list and choose Move under…. Pick the heading — say Wine — and they all move at once.
3. Ticking the heading itself along with its types is fine. It stays where it is, and the message tells you so.
4. To pull a type back out, tick it and choose Move under… → None (top-level).
5. To delete, use the 🗑 on the row, or tick several and choose Delete empty.

Food, Drinks and Shop

Your sections are split into tabs. You see one kind at a time.

• Food is for your items.
• Drinks is for everything a guest drinks.
• Shop is for goods a guest buys and carries home.

A tab shows only if you have that kind. If you sell food and no drinks, you see no tabs. The number on each tab tells you how many sections it has.

This makes it easy to put your sections in order. Before, food and drinks were in one long list. Now you move a food section up or down. Your drinks stay where they are. Each tab keeps its own order.

Guests see the same order on your menu. At first, all your Food comes first. Then your Drinks. Then your Shop.

To show drinks first, drag the Drinks tab in front of the Food tab. The first tab is what guests see first on your menu. It saves when you drop it. A bar can put its drinks at the top this way. Only people who can edit the menu can move the tabs.

The tick boxes work on the tab you are on. Move under… shows only the headings from that tab. So you cannot put a pizza under Wine.

Good to know

• A section that still holds items, types, or items served from elsewhere is never deleted. Empty it first — the message names what is in the way.
• A section that has types under it cannot itself become a type. Move its types out first.
• Nothing you group is lost. Items stay exactly where they are; only the heading above them changes.
• Diners see the change straight away on your public menu, with the types as filters inside the section.
