Scanning a menu that isn't in English

Most menus are not written in English. A Thai list prints ต้มยำกุ้ง; an Italian one prints Cacio e Pepe. When you scan one, the names now go into the right language box instead of all landing in English.
The rule
Whatever your menu is printed in, that is the language the item is saved as. English is filled too, so nothing on your public menu ever goes blank.
How it works
- Scan your menu as usual, in Menu → Scan menu (AI).
- On the review screen each item shows a small line saying what it was read as — Read as Thai.
- If your menu prints the name twice — the Thai name with an English line under it — that line shows too: English: Fried Sun-Dried Beef. Both go in, and there is nothing left to translate.
- Tick the items you want and press Apply.
- Open any item and you will see the name sitting under ไทย, with English filled in beside it.
Good to know
- A menu printed in one language only fills English with the same words, so your public menu and your search still work. Press Translate on the item to replace it with real English.
- Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Burmese and Russian are recognised from the writing itself.
- For languages written in the same alphabet as English — Italian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Vietnamese — turn the language on first in Settings → Languages. Otherwise the item is saved as English, because “Carbonara” on an English menu is still an English menu.
- Section headings follow the same rule when they are in Thai, Japanese and the like.
- Anything you retype on the review screen goes into the language you typed it in.
