Guest chat on your menu

A small bubble sits on your menu. A guest taps it and asks what they would have phoned you about: what is in the carbonara, are you open Monday, where do we park. It answers from your own menu and settings, in the language they wrote in.

The rule: it only says things you have already told it. If the answer is not in your menu or your settings, it says so and points the guest to you.

How it works

  1. Open Settings → Guest chat and turn on Show the chat on my menu. If that page is not there, guest chat is not on your plan yet. Ask us.
  2. Under How it looks, pick a Picture for the chat. Choose one of our drawn faces, or drop in your own logo or photo. Any size is fine. We make it small for you. Set a Name if you want something other than your venue’s name at the top.
  3. Under Things guests ask, write the answers you give over and over: parking, which door, high chairs, corkage. This is what makes it useful.
  4. Press Save changes. The bubble is live within a minute.

The bubble is on every menu page. It is on the full menu. It is on each part of the menu. It is on each dish page.

The chat knows which page the guest is on. On a dish page it knows that dish. A guest can type “is this sweet?” and it answers about that dish. They do not have to type the name. On a dish page and on one part of the menu, the chat also shows three questions to tap. The questions use the name of the dish or the part.

Guests see what they can ask. On every page, two rows of questions move slowly above the text box. Examples are “What do you recommend?” and “Are you open now?”. A guest taps one and the chat answers it. The rows go away after the first question. The text box gets taller as the guest types, so they can read their whole question.

The chat links your dishes. The chat writes the name of a dish. That name is a link. A guest taps it and the dish page opens. They see the photo, the price and what is in it. Their chat is saved. It is still there when they open the bubble again. This needs the paid plan. The free plan has no dish pages.

The panel on the right shows the chat as a guest sees it. It changes as you type. You never type your dishes, prices or hours anywhere. Change a price at four o’clock and the chat quotes the new one at five past.

Good to know

  • It needs your menu public and your AI features on. Turn either off and the chat stops too.
  • The chat knows every dish you publish, with its price. A very long menu keeps fewer dish descriptions, so it all fits. No dish is ever left out.
  • Dish pages and parts of the menu are on the paid plan. On the free plan the chat is on your one menu page.
  • Dish names are links only on the paid plan. On the free plan the name is not a link.
  • Guests are told twice they talk to an assistant. That cannot be turned off.
  • It cannot book, order, or promise a dish is safe for an allergy. On allergies it says what the menu says, and that the kitchen must confirm.
  • Add your booking link to let guests book. Paste it in Settings → Venue, for example your SevenRooms page. A guest asks the chat to book. The chat shows a Book a table button that opens your page. Without a link, the chat shows the contact form.
  • When it cannot help, it offers to put the guest in touch. Their details land in Customers → Guest requests.
  • The Chat history button at the top opens every chat guests had. Read them to see what people ask.
  • Your picture shows at the top of the chat and on the bubble in the corner. Pick First letter to go back to the plain letter.
  • There is a daily limit on answers, so a shared link cannot cost more than you expect. Only owners can change this page.
