The Recipe R&D dashboard

The inbox opens with a dashboard, not just a grid. Four numbers, your categories as chips, and a view switch.

The rule

Healthy R&D is a thin inbox, steady weekly ingestion, a promotion rate over 25%, and under five days to promote. Outside one of those, the dashboard tells you which lever to pull before you open a single candidate.

The four numbers

  • Inbox — waiting to be looked at. Past twenty means ideas arrive faster than anyone triages them.
  • This week — what landed since Monday, with month-to-date underneath.
  • Promotion rate — the share that became drafts. Healthy is 25–40%. Under 10% is noise coming in; over 60% means nobody’s discarding.
  • Avg days to promote — three to five days: long enough to think, short enough that the idea doesn’t go stale.

Categories as chips

Below the numbers, every category appears as a pill with its count — Pasta · 12, Pizza · 4. Tap to filter, tap again to clear. Candidates nobody tagged get their own pill, so they stay visible instead of disappearing.

The chips wrap rather than scroll sideways, so twenty categories still fit.

Three views of the same thing

  • Grid — big cards with the hero photo, title and vibe summary. For browsing what’s new; the image leads.
  • List — compact rows with thumbnail, category, status, creator and time. For working a backlog of forty in one pass.
  • Kanban — a column per status. Drag a card between columns to change it; the move saves as you let go. For the weekly standup on a wall screen.

In List and Kanban, hovering a thumbnail pops a much larger preview — one second of hovering replaces a click and a back button.

Good to know

  • Every card shows by [name], so three days later you know who to ask what they were thinking.
  • The tiles are shortcuts: tap Inbox and the grid filters to it; tap This week and you get the last seven days.
  • The numbers stay instant whether you have fifty candidates or five thousand — they’re counted as they change, not recounted on load.
