AI agents per teammate

A cashier doesn’t need to be discussing Instagram engagement with the growth strategist. A marketing manager probably shouldn’t have the menu strategist’s price-change tools. This is where you narrow it, person by person.

You only see this when multi-agent chat is on. It is off today. While it is off, the AI agents button and its modal are hidden. The settings here would change nothing, so we do not show them. Turn multi-agent chat on and the button comes back.

The rule

Adding a tool here never grants access someone doesn’t already have. If their role can’t change prices, ticking “Change item price” changes nothing. The role is always the ceiling — this is a further filter on top.

How it works

  1. Open Settings → Members. Each row has three buttons: Permissions, AI agents, Revoke. You see AI agents only when multi-agent chat is on.
  2. Click AI agents. A modal opens with one card per assistant.
  3. Turn one off — flip the switch on its card. The dispatcher will never route that person’s questions there; they fall back to the generalist.
  4. Narrow its tools — open Customize tools and untick individual ones. The badge shows Custom · 3 of 7 so you can see at a glance what’s been changed.
  5. Reset to default puts a card back to everything-enabled.
  6. Save at the bottom.

Good to know

  • Everyone gets every assistant by default. You only come here to take something away.
  • The status badge on each card reads Default (enabled), Disabled, or Custom · N of M.
  • This is gated by its own permission, Manage AI assistants. You can give it to a tech-savvy manager without making them a full staff manager — they’ll reach the AI agents button but not Permissions or Revoke.
  • Changes apply from that person’s next message.
