Suppliers

Every ingredient came from somebody. Suppliers is the list of those somebodies, and the place you upload their price lists.

The rule

One ingredient, one main supplier. The main supplier’s price is the cost of that ingredient, and that cost becomes the cost of every recipe and every dish that uses it. Pick the price you really want to count.

How it works

  1. Open Suppliers and press + Add Supplier. Type the company name, the payment terms and the lead time in days. Add tags like Wine or Produce if you want to filter later.
  2. Open the supplier and use the tabs: Items for their products, Price Lists for their price lists, Trends for how their prices have moved, Analytics for what they sell you, Contacts for the people you talk to, History for every change.
  3. On Price Lists, drop the PDF or the photos the supplier sent. Drop every page together, up to five files. The app reads them as one list. This costs credits, and the price shows on the button before you press it.
  4. You get one line per product, with a name, a pack size and a price. Some lines are marked matched to an ingredient you already have.
  5. Press Approve on a line. A new line makes a new ingredient. A matched line writes the new price onto the ingredient you already have. Press Skip on lines you never buy.

Good to know

  • Most kitchens upload a price list a few times a year, so the credit cost is small.
  • Approving a matched line moves the cost on your ingredient. Every recipe and every dish margin above it moves too, on their own.
  • Editing a line here edits the supplier’s entry. To change your own ingredient, open it on the Inventory page.
  • If a product is already in your pantry, the box switches to Link to existing so you do not get two copies.
  • A line with no pack size can still be approved. Its cost starts at zero. Open the ingredient on the Inventory page and type the pack size to get a real cost.
  • Purchase orders and deliveries are switched off, so the page does not show them. You see products and prices instead: how many products this supplier sells you, how many are on promotion, and how many prices moved.
