Use a video you already have

You don’t have to write a story to make a film. If you already shot the video, hand it over and go straight to the edit.

Bringing your own video skips the writing and the pictures. Everything after that is the same film you would have got either way.

How it works

  1. Open Marketing Studio → Scrolling Films and press New film.
  2. Under Where does the video come from?, press Use a video I have.
  3. Pick something on your menu — or leave it as a film of its own — name it, and press Create.
  4. On 1 · Your video, choose your file. Its length, size and shape show before anything uploads, and anything too big is shrunk to fit first. Up to six shots.
  5. 2 · Film is the usual edit: trim each shot, choose how it starts and ends, add titles, add music.
  6. 3 · Publish & export puts it on your homepage, on that item’s own page, or both.

Good to know

  • MP4, MOV or WebM. Straight off your phone is fine — a 4K clip is far bigger than we can take, so it is shrunk to about 1080p on your device first. That takes seconds, uses no data, and the original never leaves your phone.
  • Over 60 seconds keeps its first minute. Under half a second is refused: too short to be a shot.
  • If your browser can’t shrink it, the message says so and tells you what to do — trim it in your photo app, or record at 1080p instead of 4K.
  • The shape comes from the file — the first shot settles it, later shots are cropped to match.
  • The scrolling version costs half a credit per picture, shown on the button; stop it or hit a failure and the credits come back. On a film you wrote as a story it is free — you already paid for the footage.
  • It runs in your browser, so use Chrome and leave the tab open. Interrupted? Run it again.
  • A dish can hold one written story and one uploaded film, but only one goes live.
  • Press Play the scroll version under Ready to publish to watch what visitors see. On the page it moves as they scroll.
  • Remove asks first. It takes the video out of the film. A live film stays live, and a scroll version stays, but you can’t make them again without a video. The film’s history says which video you removed. A film like that says Ready to put live, and you can still put it live.
