An item's web address

Every item on a paid site has its own page, and the SEO Slug field on General info is the last part of its address: .../item/spaghetti-carbonara.

The rule

It fills in from the name while the item is new. Once the item has an address, renaming it never moves it — because every link already pointing at it would stop working.

How it works

  1. Add an item and it gets an address straight away, made from its name. Spaghetti Carbonara becomes spaghetti-carbonara.
  2. If the item has no address yet, the field keeps up as you type the name.
  3. Once it has one, typing a new name leaves the address where it is. To move it anyway, use Reset from name above the field — a deliberate act, because it breaks the old link.

Good to know

  • Changing it breaks things quietly. The old address stops working: printed QR codes, a post you shared, and the search results people find you through. There is no redirect.
  • An item named only in Thai, Japanese or Arabic gets no address of its own — those letters have no web-safe form. It still has a working page, just at a less readable link. Add an English name and the field fills in.
  • Accents survive. Crème Brûlée becomes creme-brulee, not cr-me-br-l-e.
  • You can write your own. Lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens.
