White rum from Puerto Rico, where Bacardí has been making its Carta Blanca since the distillery's early days on the island. It is the classic light rum — column-distilled, rested briefly in oak, then charcoal-filtered to keep it clear and light-bodied.

  • Puerto Rican white rum, column-distilled.
  • Light and dry, with a soft finish.
  • Notes of vanilla, almond, and fresh pear.

How it is made

Bacardí Carta Blanca is a column-distilled rum made from molasses, then aged for a short time in American white oak and filtered through charcoal to remove colour. The result is a rum that stays light and crisp, with just enough wood influence to round off the spirit's natural heat.

How it tastes

Clean and gently sweet on the nose, with vanilla and a hint of almond. On the palate it is light-bodied and dry, with that fresh pear note carrying through to a short, clean finish. Nothing heavy, nothing syrupy — just a straightforward, well-made white rum.

Where it comes from

Puerto Rico has been the home of Bacardí since 1936, when the family moved production there from Cuba. The island's warm climate speeds up the ageing process, which is why even a short rest in oak can give the rum a touch of smoothness without darkening it.

Good to know

Carta Blanca is the same rum Bacardí has bottled since the 1860s — the recipe has stayed essentially unchanged, and it remains one of the most widely recognised white rums in the world. Its lightness is what makes it so versatile behind a bar.
